The Planning and Zoning Commission of Winterville reviews and approves building projects and commercial signage, and ensures compliance with existing zoning ordinances and the comprehensive plan.
The Historic Preservation Commission actively participates in the oversight of future development as well as preserving the unique look of our “Historic Train Town”.
The Citizens Advisory Committee handles special projects in Winterville, such as appeals for SPLOST funding.
The Winterville Library Board, in consensus with the Athens Regional Library System Director, recommends reasonable rules and regulations for the operation of the Winterville Library. The Board sets local policies and practices when there is no Athens-Clarke or Regional Library System policy governing that area of service.
“The Winterville Tree Commission is to be commended for their outstanding work for raising awareness of the importance of community trees,” said Mary Lynne Beckley, Executive Director of the Georgia Tree Council. “In just a few short years, they have accomplished so much through education and advocacy to make sure that trees are understood as vital to their city.”
The Winterville Arts Council is established to promote and encourage all forms of art in the Winterville, Georgia community.
Community Center Advisory Council
This council will ensure that we are serving our adult citizens especially seniors and the Winterville Community as a whole with multi-level programming and events. This council will serve to aid the Director in creating and sustaining a successful business model for the Center.
The Winterville Heritage Foundation, Inc. was incorporated in 2002 to recognize and preserve this proud history. This foundation is a tax exempt corporation, and would accept any tax exempt donations toward restoration and improving our remaining historic buildings.
A Downtown Development Authority is used in cities throughout the state as a mechanism to revitalize and redevelop municipal central business districts. The DDA training (provided) provides local leaders with the skills and knowledge they need to ensure a healthy, vibrant downtown.
