Minutes for May 18, 2021

The Winterville Historic Preservation Commission held a meeting on May 18, 2021 at the Depot in Winterville, Georgia. Present and participating were Jonathan Frye (Vice Chair), James Taylor, and Jonathan Scott.

The meeting was called to order at 6:05 pm.

Mr. Scott made a motion to accept the minutes of the committee’s April 20 meeting. Mr. Tucker seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Mr. Scott informed members of their newly approved HPC terms. Mr. Scott’s first term will expire in May 2022, Mr. Tucker’s second term will expire in January 2023, and the terms of both Ms. Burch and Mr. Frye will expire in January 2024.

Members held a discussion regarding City Council’s request that HPC reconsider the proposed district boundaries. A public meeting will be advertised for a still-undecided date to invite comment on the removal of the Winter Hills district and the addition of properties and lots along Parkview Drive, Harris Lane, and Moore’s Grove Road.

Mr. Scott informed the committee that, per local historian Greg Yoder, there may be an additional historic cemetery within city limits. If this is confirmed, present committee members agreed that it should be added to the district map as an additional character area.

Members held a discussion regarding the HPC seat vacated by Aaron Watwood. Members agreed to consider possible candidates and send recommendations to Mayor and Council pending further discussion.

Mr. Scott made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Tucker seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
